Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh will contest an appeal which was filed to exclude him from the presidential race on December 24, Italian news agency Nova reports.
On Saturday evening, Tripoli’s Court of First Instance accepted one of the various appeals filed against Dbeibeh. Those filed the appeal claimed that the premier is in possession of Canadian nationality, which is a violation of electoral law that bars candidates with dual citizenships from running for office.
Lawyers of the premier told Italian news agency Nova that he will challenge the decision. However, if the court rules against him for a second time, he will be officially disqualified from running for president.
