Ibrahim Dbeibeh, son of Ali Dbeibeh, has been pressuring government officials into accepting election postponement, according to a report by Africa Intelligence.
Ali Dbeibeh, a cousin of Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, is a former Gaddafi regime official who is currently being investigated by Canadian and British authorities for embezzlement and fraud.
Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush and Presidential Council chairman Mohamed Al-Menfi were reportedly instructed by Dbeibeh’s son to refrain from any mention of elections on 24 December during the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations.
Africa Intelligence reported that Ibrahim Dbeibeh went as far as pressuring the two officials into proposing elections delay before international diplomats.
The Libyan premier’s relative allegedly urged Libyan ambassadors abroad to lower expectations of international officials regarding the December elections.
