Informed sources have reported that the talks currently taking place in Geneva between the presidency of the Libyan House of Representatives and the State Council are stumbling and could fail due to the two parties’ disagreement over the issue of the candidacy of Libya dual nationals in any upcoming elections.
“Parliament Speaker Aguila Saleh stressed the need for any Libyan to be allowed to run in any future elections and the choice to be left for the people. However, State Council chair, Khaled Al-Mashri, insists on rejecting this point specifically,” a well-informed source from Geneva told the Libya Update today.
