EU envoy to Libya Nicola Orlando has met with the General Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar where they discussed current developments, focusing on Libya’s political impasse, according to Orlando.
“Honored to meet with H.E. Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar during my visit to Benghazi,” Orlando said.
“We had an insightful exchange on current developments, focusing on how the EU can contribute to resolving Libya’s political impasse and divisions, while preserving stability,” he pointed out.
“We will explore opportunities for increased cooperation through EU programmes, including with a view to improving the management of the southern borders,” EU envoy stressed.
“I also conveyed the EU’s full support for newly appointed SRSG HannaTetteh, emphasizing the importance of achieving unified, legitimate institutions and holding national elections,” he added.
