“The whole world has a problem with Saif al-Islam Gaddafi’s candidacy for the presidential elections,” said Joey Hood, a U.S. State Department official, on Wednesday evening.
Speaking in an interview with Alhurra TV channel, Hood acknowledged that “whoever runs for the Libyan elections is a matter for the Libyan people to decide”. However, he stressed that “the whole world has a problem with Saif Al-Islam Gaddafi’s candidacy for the presidential elections”.
“He is a war criminal, who is subject to U.N. and U.S. sanctions,” Hood said.
The sone of the late Libyan ruler has hinted at the possibility of running for office in an interview with the New York Times last May.
