A report published by DW A report published by the German news network DW reported the views of Libyan political observers and citizens on the recent municipal elections in the country, which were seen as an early test for the presidential and legislative elections that have been postponed since 2021.
Observers saw this electoral process as an important indicator of the extent to which Libyans are ready to run for major presidential and parliamentary elections, after a series of postponements that increased popular frustration with the political process.
A number of citizens in the capital, Tripoli, expressed their opinions. “Voting is necessary for me, it makes me feel useful,” said 62-year-old engineer Sami al-Tajouri. “My three children came to vote for the first time, and I hope they will soon be able to cast their votes in the presidential elections and choose their representatives in parliament. But I regret that I can have a say in who represents me when others, especially in the East, cannot.”
