Libya’s General National Maritime Transport Company (GNMTC) has confirmed that its CEO, Khalid al-Tawati, was kidnapped yesterday in Tripoli by an unknown armed group.
Al-Tawati was driving home, after leaving the company’s premises at 15:30 on Sunday, when a group of gunmen, driving three cars, blocked the road and forcibly pulled him out of his car and into one of theirs, reports GNMTC in a statement that was released via Facebook yesterday.
GNMTC said it hasn’t been able to identify the culprits, adding that it had reported the incident and conducted all legal procedures with the competent authorities.
“Thus, we hold the official authorities in the Libyan state, represented by the government’s leadership, the Ministry of Interior and all security and law enforcement agencies, full responsibility and we demand that they work very seriously to identify the armed group and arrest it,” said GNMTC.
