Libya – Turkish political analyst Jawad Gok said that Turkey’s recent intense diplomatic and intelligence efforts reflect Ankara’s desire to secure its presence in any future political arrangements in Libya. He noted that this comes as signs grow of a potential U.S. initiative to reorganize the Libyan scene in a way that protects the interests of regional and international powers involved in the country.
In comments to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Gok explained that Turkey aims to guarantee its stake in any future agreements amid ongoing talks to reshape Libya’s political balance. He said that while Turkey has supported authorities in western Libya for years, it has recently expanded communication channels with the Eastern-based Libyan National Army led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
Gok added that this outreach stems from Turkey’s understanding that any future settlements will require the involvement of all influential parties, especially as current discussions focus on redistributing political power within Libya.
