Gulf Cooperation Council invites Libyan parties to dialogue

The secretary general of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jassim Mohammed al Budaiwi, has invited all parties involved in the Libyan crisis to dialogue, during a meeting at the headquarters of the general secretariat in Riyadh with the charge d’affaires of the Libyan Embassy in Saudi Arabia, Fateh Bashaina.

According to a statement released by the Gulf council, adding that Budaiwi reaffirmed the Council’s commitment to establish security and stability in Libya and to encourage the withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries.

The Secretary-General then expressed the Council’s support for the role of the United Nations and the efforts of its Special Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, to reach a political solution, hold elections and reunify state institutions, in order to realize the will and aspirations of the population.
