UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, informed Member of the Libyan Presidential Council (LPC), Abdullah al-Lafi, of his aspiration for the Council to play its role in a comprehensive political process based on national ownership and leading to presidential and parliamentary elections.
Guterres and al-Lafi met Saturday on the sidelines of the 36th African Union summit held in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
UN Secretary-General praised the efforts of the Presidential Council in leading the national reconciliation file, according to LPC statement.
In his speech during the meeting of the African Union High-level Committee on Libya, Guterres stressed the urgent need for political will to break the political stalemate in Libya, speaking of an alternative mechanism to reach the constitutional rule and elections.
