The First Deputy President of the High Council of State, Hassan Habib, spoke of an agreement between his council and the Parliament regarding the board of the High National Elections Commission, considering it a significant step forward, albeit the easiest compared to the issue of electoral laws, in a statement to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.
Habib clarified that there are observations on the laws and that the advisory committee formed by the mission has submitted recommendations and options to address them. He noted that the level of communication between the two councils has increased, which contributes to reaching compromises, and that the members of the House of Representatives understand this.
He stressed that efforts and hopes are focused on reaching laws that are politically applicable to all with complete impartiality, considering this the main guarantee against raising fears and concerns among segments of the public that the laws are aimed at excluding one party or enhancing the opportunities of another.
He noted that his council’s roadmap evaluation committee has submitted proposals to amend the laws, which will be discussed in an official session next Monday, in preparation for their approval and subsequent submission to Parliament.
