Benghazi – The Libyan Government Head, Dr. Oussama Hamad, affirmed this. Libya’s Independence Day marks a pivotal national moment. It embodied the will of the Libyans. It commemorated the sacrifices of a generation. This generation believed in sovereignty and unity. They laid the first foundations for a state of law and institutions.
He issued a statement to the Libyan people. He congratulated them on the 74th anniversary of independence. The Head of the Libyan Government said the founding fathers gained independence. They achieved it through their free will. This followed a journey of immense sacrifices. There were no impositions or guardianships. He considers this anniversary a national commitment. It honors ancestors by completing the state project. This requires a unifying spirit to face current challenges.
In his statement, the Libyan Government Head sharply criticized UNSMIL’s performance. He recalled the historical role of the United Nations in 1951. That role represented genuine support for the Libyan people. It aided them in establishing their independent state. He clarified that the UN mission failed to accomplish its original task. It actively contributed to complicating the political scene. It prolonged the crisis. It eroded national decision-making. He noted the mission’s policies perpetuated a state of dependence on foreign wills. They deepened institutional division. This contradicts the essence of national sovereignty.
Hamad held the international community responsible. This responsibility is historical, moral, and legal. It necessitates a serious review of its role in Libya. He demanded an end to imposing political paths. These paths do not stem from national consensus. He described them as only producing more instability. They undermine opportunities for state-building. The Head of Government renewed his pledge to the Libyan people. He vowed to move forward with reconstruction and development. He committed to building effective institutions. He promised to consolidate the rule of law. He pledged to dedicate all resources for presidential and parliamentary elections. This will empower citizens to choose their representatives.
