International powers confirm support for Libyan elections during Wilton Park talks

The countries of the P3 + 2 + 2 format have confirmed their support for the efforts of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, to promote elections in country during series of talks in Britain.

The P3 + 2 + 2 format is composed of the U.K., U.S., Italy, Egypt, France, Germany and Turkey. Representatives of all seven countries met between 26 to 28 of October to discuss Libya’s political process, particularly a roadmap for elections in the country, according to Italy’s Special Envoy to Libya Nicola Orlando.

Held in Wilton Park, an executive agency of the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the meeting was officially entitled “Reinvigorating Libya’s Political Process Towards a New Electoral Roadmap”.

“At Wilton Park, Italy, Egypt, France, Germany, Turkey, the UK and the US confirmed support to [Bathily]’s efforts to foster Libya’s elections,” Orlando stated via Twitter.

“We encourage the relevant  institutions & actors to finalize the necessary constitutional & legal requirements without delay, & to work together to overcome divisions,” he added.
