Benghazi – Today, the developed berth No. (5) at the Julyana Free Zone Port received the eco-friendly car carrier “Al-Samha UGR,” which operates on dual-fuel technology: liquefied natural gas and electricity.
This modern vessel, 200 meters long with a draft of nine meters, is one of the new generation of low-emission ships. It arrived at the port from the Port of Shanghai in the People’s Republic of China and the Jebel Ali Port in the United Arab Emirates, as part of a direct and fixed shipping line connecting Asian ports to the Julyana Free Zone Port without passing through transit stations. The line is operated for the Mediterranean Shipping Agency.
The ship carried 773 new vehicles, including 20 heavy machinery units, 3 trucks, one drilling machine, two tripod trailers, a house trailer, and 5 civilian vehicles, in addition to a special inspection device for trucks and cars.
This operation marks the first docking of a vessel at the developed berth No. (5), following the completion of expansion and modernization works that included deepening the draft to 16.6 meters, increasing the quay’s thickness, expanding the rear yards, and constructing integrated service buildings. This allows for the reception of large ships and the provision of advanced logistics services.
This event comes within the framework of efforts to develop the port’s infrastructure and enhance its strategic position as an effective regional platform for maritime trade, capable of accommodating the growing volume of sea shipments and meeting the requirements of modern international shipping lines.
