Lack of resources exacerbates breeders’ losses in Jabal Al Akhdar after sheep poisoned by “Darias”

Lack of resources exacerbates breeders' losses in Jabal Al Akhdar after sheep poisoned by "Drias"

The Director of the Livestock Department in Jabal al-Akhdar, Saleh Boumbarka, announced the death of 5 sheep belonging to a breeder in the Aqfanta area, west of the city of Al-Bayda, as a result of consuming the poisonous “Darias” plant.

Boumbarka explained in a statement to the “Libya Al-Ahrar” channel that this is the second case in two weeks, after a breeder lost about 78 sheep last week due to the same plant. He noted that the phenomenon has become a growing source of concern for livestock breeders in the region.

He confirmed that the Livestock Department suffers from a severe shortage of the necessary resources to combat diseases and protect livestock, pointing to the need for some pens to be sprayed with pesticides amidst a lack of pesticides, spraying vehicles, and transportation, which makes it difficult to control the risks.

Boumbarka called on the relevant authorities to provide the necessary support and resources to protect the livestock and prevent the worsening of losses among breeders in Jabal al-Akhdar.
