Lack of response to Cyrenaica dispute leads to escalation, warns Deputy PM

Deputy Prime Minister Hussein al-Qatrani warned that neglecting the demands for fair representation of the eastern region of Cyrenaica could “fuels the situation”.

During a meeting with Cyrenaica officials in Benghazi, al-Qatrani rejected the decision made by Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh to form a government team to visit the city.

“The demands are clear and do not require the formation of committees to visit the region,” he said.

The deputy premier explained that he did not publicly criticize his boss until after all the months-long efforts to resolve this issue internally were exerted.

Dbeibeh’s deputy accuses him of violating peace deal
