Sirte – The Libyan Blind Powerlifting Championship began in Sirte. It is supervised by the Libyan Paralympic Committee. The Sirte sub-federation for sports for people with disabilities organized it. The Sirte Municipality sponsored the event. The Great Man-Made River Investment Authority in Sirte also provided sponsorship. Activities will continue for two days.
The opening ceremony was attended by the head of the Libyan Blind Sports Federation. The head of the Libyan Blind Association was also present. The chairman and members of the championship’s supreme arbitration committee attended. Heads of sub-federations for sports for people with disabilities were there. These officials represented Tripoli, Sirte, Al-Khums, and Benghazi. Several heads of participating clubs and blind associations were present. The organizing committee attended. Many fans of the sport were also present. Media representatives also attended.
Mohamed Qurbaj is the head of the championship’s media committee. He told the Libyan News Agency that blind athletes from across Libya are participating. They represent eight clubs and associations. These include Al-Irada Benghazi and Al-Diyaa Al-Khums. Also participating are Al-Qardhabiya Sirte and Al-Manar Benghazi. Al-Kumayshi Benghazi is another participant. Binour for the Blind Tripoli and Al-Nour Association for the Blind Tripoli are also competing. Al-Kafif Association Benghazi completes the list.
Qurbaj noted that Captain Ashraf Abdul Ati heads the supreme arbitration committee. Its members include Captain Fadel Aqila. Captain Ahmed Al-Bi’a is also a member. Captain Omar Shalbeek completes the committee.
The championship competitions are held at Azhar School stadium. It is located in the Al-Jazira district of Sirte.
