Tegucigalpa – Honduran electoral authorities announced Nasri Asfoura’s victory. Asfoura is a right-wing candidate of Palestinian origin. His win in the presidential elections sparked controversy. There were accusations of suspected fraud.
Asfoura is a 67-year-old businessman. He is the son of Palestinian immigrants. Asfoura defeated former TV presenter Salvador Nasralla. Nasralla also has Palestinian roots. Nasralla demanded a full recount of votes. He cited alleged irregularities.
Asfoura secured 40.1% of the votes. His closest rival, Salvador Nasralla, received 39.53%.
Ana Paula Hol leads the National Electoral Council. She announced Asfoura’s victory for a four-year presidential term. He is scheduled to take office in late January 2026.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio quickly congratulated Asfoura. He expressed his eagerness to work with the new president. This cooperation aims to enhance bilateral security. It will also help end illegal immigration.
