Libya ranked second on list of top humanitarian aid donors to Gaza

Libya ranked second on list of top humanitarian aid donors to Gaza

Libya is the second largest donor of humanitarian aid to Gaza, according to the Egyptian Red Crescent.

The Egyptian Red Crescent published on Friday a graph, which it says showcased the top donors of aid to Gaza as of November 10.

Libya was ranked second with 546.9 tons of aid, behind Egypt, which provided 9,262 tons.

The Egyptian Red Crescent said that the total humanitarian aid to Gaza that reached Al-Arish exceeded 9,262 tons, including 8,495 tons provided by Arab countries, and 767 tons provided by foreign countries.

The deliveries through Rafah did not start until about two weeks into the offensive launched by Israel in response to a deadly Palestinian attack in southern Israel on Oct. 7.

Kuwait came in third place with 412 tons, Qatar fourth with 286 tons, then Turkey with 203 tons, Pakistan with 165.6 tons, Russia with 115 tons, then Algeria with 104 tons, and Bahrain with 79 tons.

On November 6, Libya’s Government of National Unity announced the sending of an integrated aid and relief shipment, in support of the people of Gaza, under the supervision of the Ministry of Defense and the Military Medical Service.

Prior to that, the Libyan National Army (LNA) sent medical and humanitarian aid to Gaza.

The deliveries through Rafah did not start until about two weeks into the deadly offensive launched by Israel in response to a Hamas attack in southern Israel on Oct. 7.

While many regional and international countries have been sending aid to Gaza, the process of entry to Palestinian territory has been marred by diplomatic wrangling centred on Israeli demands over inspections, and distribution of the aid has been hampered by security concerns and a lack of fuel.
