Libya’s former Deputy PM runs for president

Ahmed Maiteeq, the former Deputy Prime Minister, announced on Wednesday his presidential bid for the upcoming elections on December 24.

Maiteeq, who served under the government of Fayez al-Sarraj, officially filed for candidacy at the High National Election Commission (HNEC) in Tripoli.

The 49-year-old is a politician and businessman from Misurata. He is the nephew of former High Council of State  chairman, Abd al-Rahman al-Swehli.

Maiteeq’s candidacy application will be reviewed by the HNEC before he is allowed to enter the presidential race.
