Cairo – Member of the House of Representatives, Abdulsalam Nassia, was chosen as a member of the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award committee representing the state of Libya. This occurred during the 39th session of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, which was held yesterday, Tuesday, in the Egyptian capital, Cairo.
The meeting’s agenda included discussing the report of the Union’s General Secretariat on the previous session, and reports from the ad hoc Parliamentary Diplomatic Committee concerning amendments to the internal regulations of the Arab Group within the Inter-Parliamentary Union. Also discussed were the amendment of the voting mechanism for the emergency item of the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s General Assembly, and amendments to the Union’s internal system to align with its charter.
During the meeting, amendments to the organizational regulations of the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award and the formation of its membership were also discussed, alongside the emergency item to be presented by the Arab Parliamentary Group at the 151st General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, scheduled for next October. Other topics included the Union’s draft budget for 2026 and determining the venue for the 40th session of the Executive Committee.
In his remarks, Nassia stressed the importance of rotating the membership of specialized committees stemming from the Executive Committee in a way that respects geopolitical distribution. He pointed out that the ninth of September marks the anniversary of the founding of the African Union in the city of Sirte, and called for a congratulatory message to be sent to the African Union to strengthen Arab-African relations. He also proposed holding the next meeting of the Executive Committee at the headquarters of the Libyan House of Representatives in Benghazi.
