Muhammad Al-Menfi, President of the Presidential Council, has stressed the necessity of continuing the ceasefire and raising awareness of the dangers of mines for Libya to achieve stability and security. In his statement on the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, Al-Menfi pledged solidarity with the families of victims of explosive remnants of war.
“On the occasion of the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action, we stand in solidarity with the families and loved ones of those affected by explosives and remnants of war.” Menfi tweeted. “We emphasize the necessity of continuing to implement ceasefires and raising awareness about the dangers of mines in order for our country to enjoy security and stability,” he added.

The United Nations General Assembly officially declared April 4th the International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action. The resolution, adopted on December 8, 2005, calls on states and relevant organizations to continue their efforts in mine action.
The United Nations Support Mission to Libya has confirmed that 19 people, including 14 children, were killed in 2022 due to explosive remnants of war in Libya. Over 15 million square meters in the country still remain contaminated with explosive ordnance.
