Mohammed Murgham, a former member of the General National Congress and a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, has called for launching a “new war of liberation” against the armed forces led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar in the eastern region, similar to what happened against the regime of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. He considers Haftar’s continued presence on the scene a clear obstacle to any political process in Libya.
Murgham explained, in his remarks on the “Evening Dialogue” program on Al-Tanasuh TV, affiliated with the deposed Mufti Al-Gharyani, that the recent Security Council statement welcoming the UN roadmap has no real value, saying: “The international community does not seek to solve crises but to manage them, unless the solution is through military control, coups, and tyranny.”
Murgham argued that the international community avoids confronting Haftar and deals with him as a de facto reality, while the UN mission manages the crisis and does not seek to resolve it. He explained that Libya is stuck between two contradictory projects: “the project of a military dictatorial state, and the project of a democratic state.”
Regarding the High National Elections Commission, Murgham said there are legal issues with the presidency of Imad Al-Sayeh, expecting a major battle over the formation of the commission and the appointment of a new head. He stressed that the laws “drafted by Haftar and Aguila Saleh” cannot be described as electoral, and that the High Council of State will reject them, which he claims keeps the country in an “intentional vortex” that paves the way for the dominance of the military establishment.
Murgham concluded by saying that any party that meets with “Haftar” (Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Field Marshal Haftar) or treats him as a political party is “a traitor to the revolution or a fool.” He stressed that the solution does not come through consensus with Haftar but through his removal by force or by an international decision, adding that the international community “supports tyranny and recognizes every dictator.”
