Former Libyan Ambassador to Damascus Mohammed Shaaban commented on the complaint by the Parliament-dismissed Mufti, Sadiq al-Gharyani, and his associates at the Dar al-Ifta, regarding what he called the withholding of funding “that is worth nothing” by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh’s government, via a post on his personal Facebook page.
Shaaban addressed Gharyani, saying, “This has become NASA, not a Dar al-Ifta, O Sadiq,” adding: “I wish you had spoken when a Libyan citizen was handed over to the Americans, when meetings were held with Zionists, when blood was shed in Tripoli, when demonstrations were suppressed, and about the failure to provide school textbooks.”
Shaaban continued that Gharyani’s protest came “when his allowance was cut off,” which Gharyani described as “a few small millions,” noting that “it is not enough for the needs of ‘the odious Suhail’ (Gharyani’s son) and his companions,” as he put it.
Shaaban concluded his post by saying that he has seen “all kinds of stumbles and blunders,” but he has never seen “such a resounding fall” as this, addressing Gharyani: “You are bankrupt and your wares are sold out.”
