Presidential Council could unilaterally decide elections legal basis, says member

Libya’s Presidential Council could unilaterally decide the constitutional basis for the national elections in December if the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF) fails to do so, revealed the council member Moussa al-Koni on Saturday.

Speaking during an interview with BBC Arabic, al-Koni said he introduced the idea to the country’s Supreme Court, the Supreme Judicial Council, the High National Electoral Commission and the UN Mission.

The council member pointed that such option would be the last resort as he fears that it could cause further discord among Libyans.

Al-Koni also accused all Libyan parties of obstructing any consensus on the constitutional base.
