Tripoli – The investigative authority at the Public Prosecutor’s Office has ordered the pre-trial detention of the former official in charge of administration at the canceled Strategic Programs Office, as well as the director of the General Department of Information and Digital Transformation at the National Oil Corporation. The two are being held on charges of harming the public interest and facilitating the release of strategic information outside state authority.
Prosecutors found that sensitive data had been leaked about oil fields, production rates, oil and gas reserves, and exploration projects. The information was sent to a foreign company operating in violation of Libyan laws. This company was hired in 2023 to conduct a sector development study. Later, investigators discovered that the company was owned by the wife of the director of the Strategic Programs Office at the corporation.
Investigators confronted both suspects with the allegations, which led to the corporation losing access to its own sensitive data. Authorities also issued arrest warrants for the owner of the foreign company and her husband, the former official. Legal steps are being taken to retrieve all leaked data and information.
