Benghazi – With half of the holy month of Ramadan over, nutrition experts in Libya have issued calls. They urge people to utilize the remaining days. The goal is to achieve a healthy balance. It also aims to avoid the effects of overindulgence during Ramadan meals.
Dr. Balqis Akhrees is a therapeutic nutritionist. She leads the ‘Health for All’ team. Dr. Akhrees affirmed the second half of Ramadan is a golden opportunity. It is a chance to regulate dietary patterns. This is especially important for sensitive groups, such as diabetics. She emphasized breaking the fast with two dates and water. She also stressed adopting fiber and vegetables. Moderate physical activity is recommended before or after Iftar. This ensures calorie burning. It also improves metabolism.
Dr. Balqis added that balance is key. Healthy intelligence lies in carefully choosing food items. It is not about deprivation. Drinking enough water is crucial. Relying on leafy vegetables helps. These maintain the fasting person’s activity levels. They also support mental and physical health.
She concluded by stating, “Ramadan is the best annual camp. It helps repair what poor eating habits ruined throughout the year. There is still ample time to benefit from the remaining days. Do so with health and safety.”
