The House of Representatives will pass a bill on presidential election within a week or two, House Speaker Aguila Saleh told the press on Monday.
“The mechanism for electing the president and determining his powers was presented to the parliament. I believe that a bill on the presidential election will be passed within one or two weeks. It is not unacceptable for any group to go against the constitutional processes,” Saleh told Russian news agency Sputnik,
Saleh also accused the Government of National Unity of failing to unify state institutions and centralizing power in Tripoli.
“This government did not work on this matter and did not care about it, nor did it establish a mechanism to unify the ministries,” he said. “Rather, it increased the centralization so that all state administrations became affiliated with the capital, Tripoli.”
The House Speaker also criticized the government’s proposed LYD 100 budget ($22 billion), which he viewed as “too big”. He said anticipated that the parliament would reach a comprise with the government on LYD 80 budget ($17 billion).
