The Security Working Group on Libya has met in Sirte, chaired by UN envoy to Libya and French ambassador, alongside members of the Libyan Joint Military Committee (JMC).
”Today, on the eve of the fourth anniversary of the signing of the 2020 ceasefire, I had the honour of co-chairing the Security Working Group meeting with the French Ambassador, lead co-chair for this session, @Mostafa_Mihraje, alongside members of the JMC 5+5 and fellow co-chairs,” according to UN envoy, Stephanie Koury.
”I appreciate the warm welcome from the 5+5 JMC, and local notables, civil society and military leaders of Sirte,” Koury stated.
“During the meeting, I emphasized the importance of Libya’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and the crucial role of the JMC 5+5 in maintaining peace and stability in Libya and fostering an environment conducive to reviving the political process leading to elections,” UN envoy pointed out.
“I also underscored the urgent need to resolve the political deadlock to unify institutions including military and security ones and to enable the JMC to fully implement the Ceasefire Agreement,” she added.
“In this regard, I reaffirmed UNSMIL’s commitment, along with its partners in the Security Working Group, to support the JMC in implementing its critical tasks”
