The trial of Abdullah Al-Senussi, the former military intelligence chief under Libya’s old regime led by Muammar Gaddafi, has been postponed yet again, this time to January 29th.
Al-Senussi’s defense lawyer, Ahmed Nashad, confirmed that the Court of Appeals in Tripoli postponed the trial session because his client was not brought from prison for the 12th consecutive time. Meanwhile, former regime official Mansour Dhao did appear via video conference at Monday’s session.
Nashad explained that Al-Senussi’s next session on January 29th will also be via video conference to hear the charges and defense pleadings in case 630.
In early January, Al-Senussi’s trial was postponed for the same reason. The Public Prosecutor Al-Siddiq Al-Sour previously pledged to look into the delays in Al-Senussi’s trial and ensure a fair, transparent, and speedy trial according to justice standards.
Al-Sour said his office had no information on Al-Senussi’s health condition. He noted there are grievances from Al-Senussi’s family over the prolonged delays in his trial, promising to address this “very soon” and guarantee justice.
