Ankara – Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced an update. Black box recordings from a plane crash show a technical fault. The aircraft, carrying a Libyan military delegation, crashed in Ankara two months ago. Chief of Staff Mohamed Al-Haddad was among those on board. The recordings indicate a malfunction in two electrical generators.
Uraloğlu clarified this to Turkey’s Anadolu News Agency on Wednesday. Pilot conversations inside the cockpit confirm the issue. They show a fault in two of the aircraft’s electrical generators. The plane maintained continuous contact with the control tower. This contact occurred before and after the emergency call. The aircraft experienced an electrical failure.
The pilots requested to return to the airport. They used the special aviation emergency call. The aircraft had to be guided manually. This was due to a complete failure of its systems. The minister noted details from the voice recorder. Two minutes after takeoff, the pilots reported the second generator failed. Approximately one second later, the third generator also failed. There was no information about the first generator.
Uraloğlu stated that pilot conversations continued briefly. They mentioned that all generators had stopped working. Then, the system resumed operation. Contact was re-established with the airport tower. The minister added that contact with the plane persisted. It lasted until 8:27 PM local time. At that point, the aircraft disappeared from radar. It crashed at the 37-minute mark. A final decision will be made after a judicial investigation. Expert reports will also be considered.
The plane crash occurred in the Haymana district. This is near the Turkish capital, Ankara. The incident happened on December 23 last year. It resulted in the death of Libyan Army Chief of Staff, Field Marshal Mohamed Al-Haddad. His four companions also died.
