The United States is acting as a mediator to negotiate the exit of outgoing Libyan premier Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh who refuses to hand over power to his predecessor Fathi Bashagha, Egyptian newspaper Al-Dustour reported on Saturday.
Citing sources close to Bashagha, Al-Dustour said U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, has offered Dbeibeh “some guarantees” in exchange for handing over power.
However, the outgoing premier still insists that he will not step down until a new president is democratically elected, according to Al-Dustour.
