The UN Security Council has expressed support for a new political roadmap aimed at leading Libya to presidential and legislative elections within 18 months.
The plan, presented by the UN Special Representative, outlines a Libyan-led process to end the transitional period by establishing unified institutions and holding free and fair elections.
Council members called on all Libyan institutions to engage in the UN-facilitated process without preconditions and to make necessary compromises.
They also emphasized the urgent need to unify military and financial institutions, expressing concern over the country’s fragile security environment and urging parties to respect the 2020 ceasefire.
