The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Libya, Hanna Tetteh, and her Deputy for Political Affairs, Stephanie Khoury, held a meeting with the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires to Libya, Jeremy Berndt, to discuss the latest political, economic, and security developments in the country.
In its statement, the UN Mission explained that the meeting, held at its headquarters, was an opportunity to review UN efforts to advance the political roadmap, contributing to the resumption of the political process and leading to inclusive national elections.
Both parties stressed the importance of the House of Representatives and the High Council of State accelerating the pace of work to complete the restructuring of the High National Elections Commission’s board, in addition to making the necessary amendments to the constitutional framework and electoral laws, to pave the way for holding elections.
The meeting also addressed the importance of strengthening economic governance and improving the management of Libyan resources. The participants discussed the ongoing preparations for the upcoming structured dialogue, which will allow broader segments of Libyan society to participate in shaping a common vision for the country’s future by providing recommendations on the fundamental reforms needed.
