US Representative expresses concern on arms trafficking in Libya; calls for expulsion of mercenaries

US Representative to the Security Council Linda Thomas-Greenfield expressed her concern about arms trafficking, stating that it is recreating conflict in Libya. She emphasized that the United States is fully committed to stopping the supply of weapons.

Thomas-Greenfield also emphasized the need for the expulsion of Wagner Group mercenaries in Libya, citing their exposure in the war in Ukraine. The US Representative believes that the interest of the Libyan state must be put first, and that stability is “essential for the Libyan people who have been waiting for it for a long time.”

In urging the 6+6 committee to contribute to the efforts led by the United Nations, Linda Thomas-Greenfield emphasized the need to address quickly the obstacles that undermine the upcoming elections. She urged all countries not to buy oil that is illegally sourced away from the National Oil Corporation, citing that it undermines stability in Libya.
