The Biden administration has notified Congress of its plan to restore the US diplomatic presence in Libya, after a decade of unrest in the North African country that forced US diplomats to evacuate the US embassy in Tripoli.

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres announced Friday the appointment of Stephanie Koury of the United States as Deputy Special Representative for Political Affairs for Libya in the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

During their meeting in Benghazi with the Libyan National Army (LNA) commander’s office director and chiefs of staff, U.S. Embassy in Libya Defense Attaché Office reaffirmed U.S. commitment to engage with Libyan military officials in all regions of the country and to support enhanced cooperation among military institutions throughout Libya, according to US Embassy.
