Waddan – Residents of Waddan city commemorated the 111th anniversary of the Battle of Qarat al-Tozah. The battle took place in 1915. It was fought between Libyan mujahideen and invading Italian forces. The local youth council in Al-Jufra Municipality organized a celebration for this occasion. Several speeches were delivered during the event. They praised the sacrifices and bravery of the ancestors. They confronted heavily armed Italian forces. The Italian forces suffered significant losses in lives and equipment. This occurred despite the simple resources and weapons of the heroic mujahideen.
The celebration featured equestrian shows. These highlighted the prominent role horses played in the Libyan jihad battles. Horses were vital during that period. A torch of jihad was lit. Surah Al-Fatihah was recited for the souls of the martyrs of the Battle of Qarat al-Tozah. A bouquet of flowers was laid for the Waddan martyrs. They died in the battles of jihad against colonialism.
Youth from the National Agency for Volunteer Efforts participated. The Qarat al-Tozah Martyrs Center for Camping and Resort in Waddan also joined. The Scouts and Girl Guides regiment took part. The Cultural Forum, Waddan Heritage and Tourism Association, and Qarat al-Tozah Equestrian Club were present. The program included a detailed historical narrative of the Battle of Qarat al-Tozah. It showcased the heroic deeds of ancestors defending the homeland. An elite group of poets also participated. They recited national poems. These poems embodied pride in history and jihad. They affirmed deep belonging and loyalty to the martyrs’ sacrifices.
