43 members of the Constitution Drafting Assembly released on Wednesday a joint statement in which they rejected a proposal of Parliament Speaker, Aguila Saleh, to form a committee to work on another draft for the constitution.
The members claim that the Assembly is “the only body” authorized to work on the country’s constitution.
“We declare our total rejection of any attempts by the Speaker of the House of Representatives to override his authority and infringe on our competencies by creating parallel bodies,” the members said.
“We call on all local and international parties not to deal with or recognize the proposals of the Speaker of Parliament,” they said.
