Libyan political analyst Idris Ahmeid said efforts to advance the political process in Libya are ongoing, with meetings and consultations continuing among various parties as part of an initiative led by Messaad Boulus to find a solution to the country’s crisis.
Ahmeid told Sputnik that the initiative still needs more time before it can be presented in its final form to the Libyan public and stakeholders. He explained that this is due to the necessary consultations and coordination between local forces and international parties concerned with the Libyan issue, in hopes of reaching the widest possible consensus.
He stated that developments are progressing along the path outlined by the initiative. The current discussions are focused on searching for a real solution to the crisis. Achieving this, he said, requires major efforts given shifting political and regional circumstances that must be considered throughout the negotiations.
Ahmeid pointed out that the initiative is gradually gaining momentum, even though parties remain divided between supporters and opponents. He noted that it continues to be the subject of discussion and debate.
He added that the initiative has succeeded in bringing together the two main parties in the Libyan political equation. This gives it a chance to make progress if regional and international support remains steady.
Ahmeid emphasized that some voices opposed to the initiative are unwilling to accept any solution unless they are part of it, and he believes these groups are hindering the political process and do not help achieve the stability Libyans seek.
He also said that efforts to bridge differences among Libyan factions should begin with the general public, who have borne the burden of repeated crises over the years and now hope to end the division and reach a comprehensive political solution.
Ahmeid noted there are campaigns and attempts aimed at sabotaging and disrupting the trajectory of presented initiatives, despite Libyans’ hopes to resolve the crisis.
He explained that there are important regional moves to support Libyan parties and apply the necessary pressure to accelerate the initiative’s success. These moves address various aspects of the crisis, with a primary focus on the political path as the main entry point for resolving other issues.
Ahmeid concluded that any political progress will open the door to settle remaining unresolved matters, most notably unifying the military institution and ending the division. This, he said, would contribute to a comprehensive and lasting solution to the Libyan crisis.
