Former Defense Minister Mohammed Al-Barghathi said that the presence of any military headquarters or weapons depot, whether belonging to regular forces or armed groups, poses a direct danger to civilians.
Al-Barghathi explained, in special statements to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, that UN reports document the presence of about 20 million weapons in the country, in addition to several groups possessing modern weapons, including drones, which doubles the likelihood of devastating disasters.
He warned of the possibility of military headquarters or ammunition depots being targeted in cities like Zawiya, which is the western gateway to the capital, Tripoli, where armed groups, believed to be storing weapons and ammunition in their headquarters, are concentrated.
Al-Barghathi continued that the city of Misrata could face the same scenario if the authorities do not honor their commitments following the recent explosion, pointing out that dozens of armed groups are stationed there and support their fellow townsman, Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, in his confrontation with the Deterrence Apparatus, making it a direct party to the conflict.
He also believed that the Souq al-Jumaa area in the capital, Tripoli, where the Deterrence Apparatus headquarters are located, would in turn be vulnerable to airstrikes if a confrontation were to erupt, which directly threatens the lives of civilians.
