Economic expert Hussein Al-Buaishi confirmed that the spread of delivery services reflects two contradictory aspects. On one hand, it has contributed to providing an income – albeit a modest one – for thousands of young people and has boosted commerce within cities, he said in exclusive statements to the Qatari “Al-Araby Al-Jadeed” website.
Al-Buaishi noted that the delivery services activity operates outside official frameworks and without accurate statistics, which deprives the economy of potential tax revenues and leaves workers without social security or health insurance.
He added that regulating the sector with clear mechanisms could transform it from individual initiatives into a standalone industry that helps absorb unemployment and provide permanent job opportunities, provided that digital and road infrastructure is developed and modern legislation is enacted to accommodate this activity.
