Former Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Salama Al-Ghweil, commented on Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh’s statements. He considers them political bickering. They are not an objective economic evaluation.
Dbeibeh aims to blame eastern reconstruction projects for the economic crisis. This intends to reduce public anger. Al-Ghweil stated this to Al-Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper. He said the Unity Government head is trying to shift blame. He attributes the economic crisis to eastern reconstruction projects. He also blames them for rising commodity prices. This is an attempt to lessen public anger against his government.
Dbeibeh is trying to avoid a comparison. This concerns achievements in the East versus projects in the West. Al-Ghweil also believes Dbeibeh wants to avoid comparing results. This includes what was achieved in eastern Libya. It also includes his government’s projects in the western region. Many believe these western projects did not meet expectations. They also think the spending did not match the outcomes.
