Al-Jahani: The Mission is silent on the discrepancy between Washington’s actions and the UN’s path
Libya – Member of the House of Representatives Essam Al-Jahani stated that the UN Mission has long remained silent on the discrepancy between the United States’ actions and the UN’s path, in exclusive statements to the newspaper “Asharq Al-Awsat.”
Al-Jahani said: “While the Mission calls on the House of Representatives and the High Council of State to focus on changing the board of the Elections Commission and agreeing on electoral laws, as initial steps towards forming a unified government, it has completely ignored Boulos’s meetings with Libyan officials.”
He added: “There are questions about whether those meetings support (the Mission’s roadmap) or reflect a unilateral American agenda focused on the independence of the oil and central bank institutions?”
Al-Jahani considered Tetteh’s recent statements as an indicator of some tension in the relationship between the Mission and American officials.
