House of Representatives member Belkhir Al-Shu’ab suggested an official session will likely be held next Monday to vote on the position of the head of the High National Elections Commission.
Al-Shu’ab explained that the current mechanism stipulates selecting the Commission’s head from the list sent by the High Council of State based on the Bouznika Agreement, but a large number of representatives want to change this mechanism.
He pointed out that the Bouznika Agreement stipulated the selection of the Central Bank Governor from the eastern region and the head of the Commission from the western region, “which did not happen,” as the current governor is from the west.
Al-Shu’ab expected the session to shift from a vote to a debate about the mechanism and to reach a new agreement on who will occupy the position of the Commission’s head.
