Benghazi – The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy of the Libyan Government announced that the city of Benghazi has witnessed a series of separate incidents over the past twenty-four hours, causing severe damage to the components of the electrical grid and leading to power outages in a number of areas.
According to the statement, a vehicle caused an accident on line 1106, taking the Machinery Station out of service, which resulted in damage to a tower and the downing of electrical wires.
In another incident, a vehicle collided with a light pole on Airport Road, causing the pole to fall and a complete outage of lighting along the entire line.
The statement also indicated that a drilling machine for water works damaged a main cable, leading to a power outage for a number of vital facilities in the city.
In the Ard al-Kawadik area, a vehicle’s collision with a utility pole led to the fall of a 200 K.V.A transformer, causing it severe damage and resulting in a power outage for part of the area.
The Ministry confirmed that the Electricity Police have begun their duties of establishing the facts and documenting the damage, in preparation for taking legal action against the violators.
The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy stressed that preserving the components of the electrical grid is a shared national responsibility, urging citizens to adhere to public safety guidelines and stay away from grid locations to ensure the stability and continuity of the electrical supply in various areas of Benghazi.
