Benghazi – Benghazi hosted a specialized training meeting. It focused on research methods and tools for mixed migration. The event was supervised by the International Cooperation Office at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It was organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This was in cooperation with the House of Representatives’ Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Committee.
The meeting launched as part of a scientific program. This program aims to develop research capabilities in migration. It targeted elite professors and researchers from Libyan universities. The training spanned two days, from April 19-20.
Dr. Abdel Moneim Moussa, Director of the International Cooperation Office at the Ministry of Higher Education, affirmed the importance of these courses. He noted that Libyan universities are key partners in improving migration research and policies. This contributes to qualifying national research cadres. These cadres can handle the complexities of migration. They address both Libyan and regional contexts.
He explained that the meeting focused on examining specialized research tools. These included Kobo survey models and the pathways-based approach. The sessions also emphasized ethical considerations. Interview methods with the most vulnerable groups were covered.
The program also included scientific sessions on the Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM). It analyzed mixed migration movements to Libya. Practical training was provided on designing digital questionnaires. Data visualization using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) was also covered.
