Libya – House of Representatives member Abdel Monem al-Arfi stated that the American peace initiative represents a genuine opportunity to end Libya’s political and security division.
Al-Arfi told Al-Masar TV that the initiative seeks to resolve the issue of legitimacy. It also aims to unify Libyan institutions.
He noted that the core of the Libyan crisis is the continued presence of armed groups outside state authority. The security track is the fundamental pillar for any successful political settlement. Al-Arfi added that no political project will succeed without addressing the security file radically.
The lawmaker linked the success of the initiative to dismantling armed groups or integrating them into formal institutions. He concluded that continued chaos and systematic looting hinder the country’s stability.
