Derna – The Ophthalmology Department at Al-Wahda Therapeutic Teaching Hospital in Derna observed World Sight Day under the slogan: “Eyes that see… a life that shines.”
The event was held at the Al-Mushir Mall hall in Derna, with a distinguished attendance that included several ophthalmologists, the director of Al-Wahda Therapeutic Teaching Hospital, a number of administrators and medical staff, as well as dignitaries and representatives from health and service institutions in the city.
The event included awareness speeches and visual presentations that addressed the importance of early detection of eye diseases and its role in preventing vision loss, in addition to introducing the most prevalent eye diseases and their modern treatment methods.
Emphasis was also placed on the necessity of adopting a healthy lifestyle to maintain eye health, through a balanced diet and avoiding the visual strain caused by excessive use of electronic devices.
The event organizers emphasized that observing World Sight Day is part of Al-Wahda Hospital’s efforts to raise awareness about the importance of visual care and to promote a culture of regular eye examinations. They noted that early prevention is the cornerstone of preserving the gift of sight and reducing the rates of blindness and poor vision.
The event concluded with the honoring of several doctors and workers in the field of ophthalmology and eye surgery, in recognition of their efforts in providing medical and therapeutic services to the citizens of Derna and neighboring areas.
