The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily, called on candidates for the Libyan presidential elections to agree on a unified proposal to break the prevailing stalemate within a specific time frame.
“Today I met with a group of political figures from different parts of Libya who submitted their nomination for the presidential election that should have taken place last year,” Bathily tweeted.
“I asked them to discuss among themselves and agree on a unified proposal to break the deadlock within a specific timeline. I encouraged them to consider the legal, constitutional and security aspects required to create a level playing field for successful elections.” He said.
“The Libyan people are determined to see 2023 as the dawn of a new era for their nation,” Bathily added.
