Central Bank of Libya (CBL) in Benghazi criticized on Thursday the allocation of low amounts of cash to commercial banks in the Eastern region, Cyrenaica, calling on CBL in Tripoli to form working teams to reunify CBL.
Amount allocated by CBL-Tripoli to Cyrenaica worth 70 million; 50 million to the National Commercial Bank and 20 million to Al Wahda Bank, according to a statement by CBL-Benghazi.
“Colleagues at the Issuance Management of CBL-Tripoli should communicate with the General Administration of CBL-Benghazi when they want to send any shipments of cash, in order to coordinate the mechanism for distributing any amounts allocated to the banks of the Eastern region,” the statement said.
The recent amount sent was low and cannot contribute to solving the liquidity problem, especially in light of the continued intransigence with regard to closing the clearing system,” CBL-Benghazi pointed out.
